Press Release
Lund 9th of January 2017
Scandinavian ChemoTech AB (publ) has signed a “LOI” with Asian Hospital and Medical Center to establish a “Center of Excellence” in Manila, Philippines.
Scandinavian ChemoTech AB (publ) has established an LOI (Letter of Intent) to cooperate with the Asian Hospital and Medical Center (“AHMC”) in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, Philippines. AHMC has shown interest, after an upcoming successful evaluation of IQWaveTM, to be the first with the establishment of a “Center of Excellence” for training and licensing of physicians for treatment through IQWaveTM, in South East Asia.
– “We at ChemoTech are proud that a leading hospital in the Philippines such as AHMC agreed to cooperate with us to help thousands of patients suffering from cancer in the Philippines. The AHMC CEO & President, Mr. Andres Licaros Jr, and the AHMC Asian Cancer Institute Director, Dr. Corazon Ngelangel, who is leading this project, share ChemoTech’s vision of making innovative cancer care more available to the public. The AHMC commitment also opens the opportunity to collaborate in research and development of future applications and technologies in ChemoTech’s business”, says Mohan Frick, CEO of ChemoTech.
Dr. Ngelangel commented,
“Dynamic ElectrochemotherapyTM is for the Philippines a new method for the local treatment of cutaneous and subcutaneous metastases. If surgery and/or radiotherapy are no longer possible, this innovative technology can be used effectively for local tumor control; and we do have such patients in the Philippines who would benefit accordingly. Dynamic ElectrochemotherapyTM is a combination of electroporation and low-dose chemotherapy. Electroporation causes increased permeability allowing cytostatic agents to cross the cell membrane and then enter into the cytosol by diffusion and at much higher concentrations, leading to increased cytotoxicity. This innovative treatment improves the quality of life for patients, with resultant local tumor control.”
At the Center of Excellence in Manila, doctors from South East Asia will be trained and certified in the use of Dynamic ElectrochemotherapyTM with IQWaveTM, which for now, is offered to palliate patients with breast, head and neck cancer. Through an LOI, AHMC and ChemoTech have agreed on the direction the collaboration will take.
The establishment of a Center of Excellence in AHMC will begin during the first quarter of 2017. The first step includes training and certification of doctors and nurses at AHMC by the India Electrochemotherapy Center of Excellence experts, followed by a non-profit compassionate program at AHMC. Successful technology transfer and technology capability building with the IQWaveTM treatment modality will be followed by an AHMC- ACI Electrochemotherapy Patient Service, Training and Development program.
“AHMC lives up to its promise as a seat of Global Expertise with a Filipino Heart”, says President & CEO Mr. Andres Licaros Jr, “once again AHMC embarks on establishing a Center of Excellence for Dynamic ElectrochemotherapyTM, bringing an innovative oncology service to the Filipino and the Asian patients.”
AHMC as the Electrochemotherapy Center of Excellence offers to assist other hospitals in the Philippines and Southeast Asia to train their doctors and nurses, to bring this innovative service to their cancer patients in need.
